The mission of the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) is excellence in applied preclinical Research and Development within trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system and translation of this knowledge to achieve more effective patient care worldwide.

ARI is part of the AO Foundation, which is the biggest trauma and orthopaedic network worldwide and one of the biggest medical networks globally.

The AO Research Institute Davos has an established experience in running project granted from the AO Foundation and national, European and global collaborative projects. Managerial expertise of ARI is substantiated also by its prolific activity in organizing meetings and congresses, including eCM the congress every year, European Society for Biomaterials (in 2009, 900 participants) the Swiss Society of Biomaterials (2013) and TERMIS EU 2017 with over 1300 participants.

ARI's certifications include ISO 13485:2003 as orthopaedic device manufacturer, ISO 9001:2008, and for the preclinical facility GLP and AAALAC accreditation, recognizing the highest standard in animal care.

BBCE project´s main objective is to establish a joint Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence for advanced biomaterials development based on the long-term strategic cooperation between AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland (ARI) and Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany (FAU) on the one hand and RTU RBIDC, LIOS, RSU and RSU IS on the other hand.
