Conferences of 2023:

Conferences of 2022:

The 32nd Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB), was held between the 4th and the 8th of September 2022 in the beautiful and historical city of Bordeaux, France.

RISEus2 was very excited to support RTU RBIDC ESR 3rd year PhD student Karina Egle for participation in this internationally recognized event and dissemination her scientific results! Her research work is related to platelet-rich fibrin-based matrices for tissue regeneration. This work investigates how to enable the sustained release of growth factors by combining PRF with delivery systems. Karina participated with poster presentation: K.Egle, E.Dohle, V.Hoffman, I.Salma, S.Al-Maawi, S.Granaati, A.Dubnika, "Fucoidan/chitosan hydrogels as matrices for sustained delivery of platelet-rich fibrin containing bioactive molecules".

The 15th Annual Meeting of Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials  ScSB2022 was held from the 13th to the 15th of June 2022 in Jurmala, Latvia. Excellent scientific programme, world-class speakers and networking.  The conference brought 101 participants - researchers and industry partners - from 17 countries.
RISEus2 was pleased to support the participation of our RTU RBIDC ESR 2nd year PhD student Agneta Vezenkova in this internationally recognized event and the dissemination of scientific results. Her research topic is related with calcium phosphate based biomaterials for bone regeneration. Agneta participated with poster presentation: A.Vezenkova, J.Locs, "Calcium Phosphate Cement Additives. Scientific vs. Patent Literature".

Conferences of 2021:

According to the RISEus2 implementation plan, it is foreseen that every project implementation year RTU RBIDC researchers will participate in both annual conferences of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) and the Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials (ScSB). In 2021 RISEus2 supported 2 early stage researchers of RTU RBIDC to participate in these scientific conferences (with total 1045 participants):
1)  PhD student Artemijs Sceglovs, 31st Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials - ESB 2021 (virtual conference with 975 registered participants from 48 countries, including 15 from outside Europe), 5-9 September 2021, poster presentation: Artemijs Sceglovs, Aigars Reinis, Kristine Salma-Ancane, "Natural biopolymer-based antibacterial hydrogels for tissue engineering".
2) PhD student Marite Skrinda, 14th Annual Meeting of the Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials - ScSB 2021 (virtual conference with up to 70 participants from 18 countries), 14 June 2021, poster presentation: Marite Skrinda, Dagnija Loca, Zilgma Irbe, Janis Locs, "Synthesis and characterization of low temperature alpha-TCP cements".

Thus, these internationally recognized conferences brought together RISEus2 target groups such as researchers, clinicians and companies for the presentation and discussion of the most recent advances in the areas of Science and Engineering of Biomaterials, in terms of more fundamental research, as well as clinical and industrial research.
Moreover, this multidisciplinary environment promoted scientific networking and dissemination of scientific results. During this scientific dissemination RISEus2 was able to highlight RTU RBIDC research activities and raise visibility in European Research Area.

BBCE project´s main objective is to establish a joint Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence for advanced biomaterials development based on the long-term strategic cooperation between AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland (ARI) and Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany (FAU) on the one hand and RTU RBIDC, LIOS, RSU and RSU IS on the other hand.
