Riga Stradins University Institute of Stomatology is the only dental medicine and oral and maxillofacial surgery institution in Latvia that does not only carry out clinical work, but also furthers academic and scientific activity in the field of stomatology. The Institute of Stomatology is fitted with the most modern equipment, and the newest technologies and techniques in stomatology.

Patients are offered quality treatment in all fields of dental medicine, as well as a multidisciplinary approach in any clinical setting. Within the period of past ten years, the following disciplines have experienced rapid growth: dental implantology, bone tissue deficiency replacement surgery, orthognatic surgery, reconstructive surgery of posttraumatic, postoperative, and inherited deformations, transplantation of teeth, endoscopic examination and treatment of salivary glands and other methods related to the application of contemporary technologies - laser surgery and piezosurgery.

For the past 20 years the volume of the application of implants has rapidly increased in the context of contemporary dentistry at the Institute of Stomatology in cooperation with Clinics of Prosthodontics, Surgery and Orthodontics. For the past years, the number of patients with insufficient alveolar bone volume or quality has increased. For these patients, effective, long-term and stabile functioning of implants is possible solely by bone augmentation. Therefore, bone transplantation and the application of biomaterials for bone replacement have rapidly become very popular. These pre-prosthetic surgical methods provide patients with the opportunity to have teeth in such clinical situations that were before recognised as hopeless.
