All BBCE partners and Advisory board memebers attended kick-off meeting of the Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence (BBCE) at Riga Technical University (RTU), Latvia. During the 2 day event also the first BBCE steering committe meeting was held. During the official openning ceremony hwe had the honour to have welcome speech from his excellency President of Latvia Egils Levits:

"I am proud of the young, goal oriented and dedicated team working here. They have promised to ensure the full cycle of bone regeneration biomaterial development - starting from the materials, preclinical studies and finally the clinical trials. For the next seven years this Centre will serve as the platform that will combine expertise and infrastructure of internationally recognised teams from Latvia, Germany and Switzerland. It will be a platform of excellence for the development of biomaterials necessary for bone regeneration and new creative applications in biomedicine," said President of Latvia Egils Levits at the launch of the Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence.

BBCE project´s main objective is to establish a joint Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence for advanced biomaterials development based on the long-term strategic cooperation between AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland (ARI) and Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany (FAU) on the one hand and RTU RBIDC, LIOS, RSU and RSU IS on the other hand.
