Outline of the position

This position is offered within the scope of Horizon 2020 BBCE project. Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence (BBCE) is a joint centre for advanced biomaterials development based on the cooperation between Riga Technical University, National Institute of Research and Innovation, Rīga Stradiņš University, LLC Rīga Stradiņš University Institute of Stomatology, AO Research Institute Davos, and Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in polymer synthesis, nanoparticle research, and biomaterials. The selected candidate will be a part of the BBCE Pre-clinical Biomaterial Evaluation Group located at the National Institute of Research and Innovation and will contribute to our ongoing projects, specifically on development of nanoparticles with predictable interactions with biomolecules and understanding nanoparticles behaviour in biologically relevant environments, with particular focus on cancer therapy and diagnostics. Responsibilities will include 1) synthesis and characterization of small organic molecules 2) synthesis of polymers via controlled radical polymerization techniques; 2) development and optimization of protocols for the preparation of nanoparticles; 3) evaluation of the unique properties and functionalities of the developed biomaterials. This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research in a highly collaborative environment that crosses multiple fields between chemistry, material science, pharmacology and medicine. The position also comes with sponsored trainings to develop new skills and includes training visits to AO Research Institute Davos (Swizerland) and Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany).

Eligibility

We are searching for the candidate with:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Bioengineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in organic synthesis, polymer synthesis and characterization techniques
  • Knowledge of physicochemical characterization of nanoparticles and materials
  • Established scientific record in organic synthesis/polymer synthesis/nanoparticles/biomaterials
  • Additional experience related to polymer synthesis, nanoparticle research and biomaterials is a plus

BBCE project´s main objective is to establish a joint Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence for advanced biomaterials development based on the long-term strategic cooperation between AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland (ARI) and Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany (FAU) on the one hand and RTU RBIDC, LIOS, RSU and RSU IS on the other hand.
