ANNOUNCEMENT
Two partly funded first-stage researchers’ positions are available within the research area of personalized patient-specific implants for bone tissue regeneration.
LOCATION OF THE POSITION
“Rīga Stradiņš University, Institute of Stomatology” ltd. Riga, Latvia.
POSITION START starting date is negotiable but tentatively April 2025.
RECRUITING ORGANIZATION
“Rīga Stradiņš University, Institute of Stomatology” ltd. (RSU Institute of Stomatology) is a commercial subsidiary company of Rīga Stradiņš University. Young researchers will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge in the upgraded study environment where training includes planning and individual modelling using 3D technologies.
THE SCIENTIFIC AND FORMATIVE CHALLENGE OF THE BBCE PROJECT
The overall objective of the BBCE is to develop a joint centre for advanced biomaterials development based on the long-term strategic cooperation between Riga Technical University, Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, Rīga Stradiņš University and Ltd. Rīga Stradiņš University Institute of Stomatology, on the one part, and AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland and Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, on the other part.
AVAILABLE POSITION
Within the scope of the BBCE project currently, there are two partly funded first-stage researchers positions available in developing patient-specific personalized implants for bone regeneration.
OUTLINE OF THE POSITION
The BBCE project, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program (WIDESPREAD-01-2018-2019: Teaming Phase 2) calls for applications to two partly funded first-stage researchers’ positions (currently students of Dentistry or Medicine), with attractive complementary training activities in the multidisciplinary and international scientific environment. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to join the research group (group consisting of a group leader, four Ph.D. students, Postdoc, medical engineer, and two technicians) established within the BBCE, and be a part of the multidisciplinary and international scientific network.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS AND BENEFITS
A part-time contract will be offered for the first stage researchers. First stage researchers will undergo yearly performance assessment related to their research and study activities (criteria will include: e.g., exams successfully passed, participation in BBCE training programs, papers published, co-supervising of students, assisting in teaching). A contract until the December of 2026th will be offered to the first stage researchers. The contract provides for part-time work with 250 working hours per year with a salary of 7 euros per hour. The annual gross salary will be subjected to all local taxes, social benefits, and other deductions following national regulations (https://www.fm.gov.lv/en/s/taxes/). Health insurance must be covered by the applicants themselves.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Applicants should be able to explain the outcomes of the research and summarize them in scientific publications.
- Applicants willbe encouraged to participate in BBCE-organized tranining seminars.
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES
- Ability to carry out research under supervision.
- Applicant has the ambition to develop knowledge of research methodologies and discipline.
- Applicant has demonstrated a deep understandng of the field of study.
- Applicant has demonstrated the ability to produce data unedr supervision.
- Applicant is capable to critical analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of ne and complex ideas.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- First stage researcher up to the point of Ph.D. (currently a student of Dentistry or Medicine).
- Excellent/good oral and written English language skills (at minimum B2 level).
- Good skills in scientific writing and presentation of the results.
- Ability to carry out the research under the BBCE scope and to produce the data under supervision.
SELECTION PROCESS OF THE FIRST STAGE RESEARCHER Candidates are asked to apply online, and the application must include the following:
